I received my master’s degree in community counseling from John Carroll University. I have experience in treating chemical dependency, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and families. My work consists of treating adolescents, adults and families in an individual and group setting. I enjoy working with and treating a variety of mental health issues.
My theoretical orientation consists of cognitive behavioral and reality therapy, but I embrace a variety of treatment modalities based on individual needs. Cognitive behavioral treatment emphasizes recognizing and changing negative thoughts and maladaptive beliefs. Our thinking can actually change the way we feel. Therefore, the goal of therapy is to encourage the client to change their current maladaptive way of thinking. At the same time introducing ways to eliminate self-defeating behavior and utilizing rational healthier ways of viewing their current situation.
In reality therapy the client discusses and evaluates current behaviors with the goal of satisfying their needs. I feel this empowers the client and promotes future success. Thus, enabling the client to be proactive in the therapy process. I believe it’s important to ask the client what they need and want from the therapeutic process. Along with how I can help them to achieve their goals. The goal of therapy is to aid the client in finding a better way to meet their needs for survival, personal growth and decision making.
I believe that clients are the experts on their lives. Only they know what they need and want. My job is to attempt to guide them as close to those needs as possible. I am always amazed at people and the power of their inner strength. I would love the opportunity to be of service to you or your family.
