Clinical
experience since 1988 working with children,
adolescents, adults and families as well as supervising
and training new therapists in both private and community
mental health settings.
Post masters specialization in Marriage
and Family Therapy.
I began my work as a therapist with children who
had been sexually abused. This interest has extended
to offering treatment to survivors of all ages,
incest families, children and juveniles who are
sexually acting out, juvenile and adult sex offenders.
My work with individuals experiencing trauma has
offered me a look into the resilience of spirit
and a deep appreciation of the work involved in
healing and recovery. I choose to primarily utilize
interventions of cognitive behavioral strategies
but find that solution focused, gestalt and mind-body
approaches invaluable. I have become interested
in the application of hypnosis in clinical practice
and am currently pursuing certification in this
specialty.
My training and experience extends to the treatment of mood disorders, depression,
anxiety, personality disorders as well as childhood disorders. Utilizing forms
of play
therapy for children provides an avenue for their expression and keeps me smiling.
As with all of us it seems, there isn't enough time to play. I relax with cooking
(and lots of good eating) and particularly like the challenge of combining healthy
eating with great tastes. Exercise is important to me.. ..it keeps me going and
I particularly like cycling and power walking. As with my clients, I am learning
and practicing to relax, meditate and love. I try to work in some travel with
friends and have my sights on the four day walk to Machu Picchu as I soon begin
my next decade.
