Hello,
my name is Jennifer Hodgson. I am a licensed counselor
who specializes in treating children, adolescents,
and their families. I received a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Baldwin Wallace College and a Master
of Education degree in Agency and Community Counseling
from Xavier University.
I have extensive training and experience in treating
children and adolescents exhibiting defiant, aggressive,
and otherwise unruly behaviors. These behaviors can
be the result of a mood or anxiety disorder, trauma
history, family conflict or simply negative peer
associations. Regardless, my approach to working
with children and adolescents exhibiting these behaviors
is to involve the child's parent/caregiver in the
counseling process. Parents are the most important
influence in their child's life, and therefore are
a necessary part of the treatment process and helping
decrease their child's negative behavior.
Since my work with children and adolescents involves extensive work with parents/caregivers,
I also have experience and training in treating adult mood and anxiety disorders
utilizing a cognitive-behavioral approach.
When I am not working with families at Psych and Psych, I serve as the Director
of Residential Treatment and Partial Hospitalization Services for the Berea Children's
Home in Berea, Ohio working specifically with children and adolescents who have
experienced a history of trauma. I am also designated by the State
of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board to provide supervision to
students in counseling programs who are working toward licensure and enjoy the
opportunity to guide and mentor up and coming counselors.
In my free time I enjoy spending time at my home in the country baking, gardening,
and spending time outdoors with my family.
