I’m
a clinical social worker with 30 years experience
providing counseling to individuals, couples and
families. I have learned so much over those years
from each client, and have been privileged to travel
with them on their life journey.
I have expertise in the following areas: anxiety/panic
disorder, depression, child behavior problems, grief
and loss issues, marital and relationship issues,
post-divorce conflict, stepfamily issues, gay and
lesbian concerns, childhood abuse and post-traumatic
stress disorder, and adult child/parent issues.
I believe that two of the most effective ways to help people are cognitive therapy
(helping folks understand how our thinking can change how we feel) and solution
focused therapy (finding solutions instead of dwelling on problems). Underlying
all of this is my philosophy that there is a deep reservoir of resilience, or
the ability to bounce back, in all of us. If I can work together with a client,
we can tap into that positive resource and great progress can be made.
I have three adult children and two grandchildren,
who have taught me more about love and acceptance
than any other life experience. Traveling to foreign
countries to build houses has convinced me that there
really are universal human experiences, and that
helping others helps me more than I help them. Being
outdoors, especially walking with a friend, has become
one of my greatest joys. I still hope to read all
those books I’ve collected, to do a lot more volunteer
travel and to learn something new each day.
